Project - VELUX Solar System

This project demonstrates the design, supply, installation and commissioning procedures involved in the installation of a VELUX 2 panel (S06) Solar System. When the client pursued the possibility of installing a solar heated hot water system at their property, they contacted Kelly’s Renewable Energy Solutions.

An initial quotation was issued to the client along with an in-depth discussion and explanation of the functions and operations of the VELUX Solar System.

Our registered installer carried out a site survey on the property before any installation work was to be carried out. The front roof of the property was south facing and at a pitch that is suitable for efficient solar collection so there was no need for any structural adaption. It was clear that there were space restrictions imposed for the installation of the panels to the front of the property, as the property has two dormer windows and a VELUX roof light to the front. It was determined from the site survey that two S06 VELUX panels were to be installed on the property and that this adjustment suited the requirements of the client.

The installation and commissioning of the 2 panel system was completed in just over a day without any problems. The customer did not have to make any preparations for the installation of the system.

The client has been extremely pleased with the operation of the system since it has been installed in December 2008. It has been reported that the client has had an immediate and very noticeable increase in water temperature as soon as the sun comes out, especially from the end of February; in some instances it has reached 60° and more. The client has been surprised by the additional heat the system can provide to the hot water system. The client expected the system to provide about half of the domestic hot water needs and it has certainly lived up to those expectations. One of the great advantages to the occupants of the property is the increased hot water supply as a result of the larger water cylinder installed with the system as well has added value to the house.
