Issue 38 - How clever technology can help save money
Welcome to the Newry Democrat’s Renewables and Energy saving section brought to you by Kellys Renewable Energy Solutions (www.kellys.uk.com). This week we will discuss how investing in ‘clever technology’ can help you save money.
If your boiler is more than 15 years old, it probably is not as efficient as it could be. A high efficiency condensing boiler will a full set of modern heating controls could cut your heating bills by up to a third.
Modern heating controls are a particularly clever way to save energy, because they simply make your existing central heating more effective. Timer controls coupled with room and radiator thermostats mean you can ‘tune’ your heating so you only heat the house when you need to.
And at the top end of ‘clever technology’ expenditure is ‘microgeneration’ technology that can bring down your bills. Solar hot water systems can save around a third of your water heating bill and can be an attractive feature for future buyers. Kellys are Microgeneration Certified Installers and use only Microgeneration technologies to provide you with the best product and system. We can also help assist you in applying for grants towards the cost of all our technologies.
Buy ‘Energy Saving Recommended’ appliances. If you want to upgrade your old appliances and electronic products, make sure that you look for the Energy Saving Recommended logo. Whether it’s a new boiler or a TV, this is your guarantee that you’ve chosen a highly efficient model.
This logo is only awarded to products that meet the criteria on energy efficiency which are set by an independent panel. There are now over 3,000 different endorsed products such as washing machines, dishwashers, lighting, televisions and radios.
Next week we will discuss Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), the badge that says “buy me, I’ll save you money”.
