Issue 6 - Multi Burning Stoves
Issue Date : 9th June
Welcome to the Newry Democrat’s renewables and energy saving section brought to you by Kellys Renewable Energy Solutions (www.kellys.uk.com). This week we will discuss ‘Multi Burning Stoves’. Due to fluctuating fuel costs, people are turning to multi-fuel stoves as a more economical and environmentally friendly way to heat their homes.
A multi-fuel stove is much more efficient than an open fire – i.e. it produces more heat than an open fire from a given amount of fuel, primarily because an open fire loses a great deal of its heat straight up the chimney.
Many multi-fuel stoves have built in burn control systems which ensure that very little smoke is produced. Clean-burn systems have the added advantage that they produce very little tar. The build-up of tar deposits is a common cause of problems with chimneys.
Recommended burning materials include Anthracite, House coal, Wood/ Timber, Peat Briquettes and Bog Peat. Wood must be dry and well seasoned, so if you are planning to install a multi-fuel stove you must make a provision for storage of the fuel - a well ventilated dry space is ideal.
At Kellys we offer an extensive range of Multi-fuel stoves to meet your needs and requirements. Multi-fuel stoves are available in Room Heater and Back-Boiler Versions. Multi-fuel stoves are also compatible with most pressurised systems, using our specially designed system for existing builds.
It is may be possible to combine multi-fuel stoves with an oil or gas boiler and solar panels to create a highly efficient multi-fuel system which takes best advantage of the natural and renewable sources of heat and minimises fossil fuel use.
