Issue 7 - Wood Pellet Boilers
Issue Date : 16th June 2009
Welcome to the Newry Democrat’s Renewables and Energy saving section brought to you by Kellys Renewable Energy Solutions (www.kellys.uk.com). This week we will discuss ‘Wood Pellet Boilers’. Due to fluctuating fuel costs, people are turning to alternative fuels such as wood pellets for a more economical and environmentally friendly way to heat their homes.
Heating with wood pellets is almost as convenient as using oil. A simple push button ignition starts the boiler and no supervision of the equipment is needed, although the pellet boiler will need cleaning about once a month. The ash must be removed at the same time although the quantity is small as the pellets burn very thoroughly. As with oil and LPG, storage space is required for the pellets, usually a 3-4 tonne silo/storage bin to accommodate suppliers who only supply 3 tonne or more of pellets per delivery. An alternative is that of bagged pellets which can be manually fed into a hopper or silo. At Kellys we supply a 10kg bag of wood pellets which are convenient and easily manageable.
Modern pellet boilers have efficiencies up to 92%, similar to a high efficiency oil or gas boiler. At Kellys we offer a range of high efficiency automatic gasification wood pellet boilers. The gasification process ensures that an efficiency of up to 92% is achieved. A wood pellet boiler works best when used with a buffer tank (water storage tank) in order to achieve maximum efficiency and provide an instant supply of heated water to your heating and hot water system. At Kellys we design a system which takes into consideration the size of the wood pellet boiler and buffer tank, as well as the piping configuration in order to achieve the most efficient and effective output best suited to your individual needs.
